Blind Corp Opens Hawk Juice Tasting Booth at Fall Festival; Diner Owner “Not Thrilled”
Free samples, mandatory smiles, and a waitlist for the pie contest
JOICEVILLE — This year’s Joiceville Fall Festival opened Saturday with homemade pies, a brass trio, and, for the first time, a forty-foot Blind Corp tasting pavilion handing out free cups of Hawk Juice beside the bandstand.
The pavilion, painted in what a company brochure calls “Wellness Beige,” drew a line that reached the Hawk Monument by noon. Attendees who finished a sample received a sticker reading I Have Been Refreshed. Those who declined received the same sticker.
“It is a celebration of community, hydration, and voluntary participation,” said a Blind Corp spokesperson, who asked to be identified only as “a Blind Corp spokesperson.” “Every resident is encouraged to enjoy Hawk Juice at their own pace, provided that pace is today.”
Not everyone was refreshed. Rashid “Ray” Malik, owner of the Super Awesome Diner Hillside, said corporate has already filled his stockroom with cases of the beverage and replaced his festival pie table with a Hawk Juice cooler. “I came here to sell pie,” Ray told the Gazette. “Now I’m in a beverage program. Nobody asked me. Nobody ever asks me. Print that.”
Old Man Grady, who has attended every Fall Festival since before the festival had a name, was more direct. “Tastes like a penny that’s been thinking about something,” he said, then asked for a second cup.
Joiceville 101.3 The Sunshine Station broadcast live from the fairgrounds all afternoon. Host Jack described the juice on air as “bright, crisp, and legally fine.”
The pie contest has been postponed to an unspecified date. Blind Corp has offered to judge it.
CORRECTIONS: Last week’s edition stated that the Hawk Monument faces the bay. The Hawk Monument faces whichever direction it prefers. The Gazette regrets the error.
